In Short
China Gourmet is no-frills: Customers order at the counter and pick it up at the window when their names are called. Tables are utilitarian and close together, but the back room has more space. The place is often packed. From the traditional ''Ants Climbing a Tree'' (bean thread with pork), to the Americanized tempeh and vegetable, the dishes here are reliably good--and cheap. The ''specials'' menu offers more choices--though they're written in Chinese.
