The Scene
Nestled among antique shops just around the corner from Healdsburg's main square, Manzanita's quiet storefront entrance is unassuming. Inside, the lively restaurant is filled with a low-key, casually dressed crowd. The decor is chic but understated: cool spackled walls, brown brick wainscoting and dark wood furniture. Wall sconces and tea lights provide romantic lighting and vaulted ceilings open up the room. Stacks of manzanita wood serve as artful room partitions.
The Food
Classic Euro-Cal is the order of the day, and the dishes are simple, flavorful and well executed. Attention to detail, like freshness of seasonal ingredients, is obvious throughout the menu. Entrees, like grilled rabbit with black chanterelles, and wood-oven-baked cassoulet, are right on the money. A visible wood-burning oven in the back of the restaurant turns out thin-crusted, creatively topped pizzas. The wine list, 200 bottles strong, features local Sonoma wines and other Californian and European gems.
