The Scene
Eva manages what most neighborhood restaurants aspire to be: A spot for dressed-down locals to come and enjoy an elegant, affordable meal. Dried grape vines snake along the ceiling with twinkling Christmas lights while the dark wooden furniture and wine bar lend a rustic feel. The staff is warm and unobtrusive; the meal pace is lazy, inviting lingering over appetizers, dessert or glasses of wine from their first-rate wine list.
The Food
Best described as Mediterranean-influenced, the menu changes seasonally and is separated into ''Firsts'' and ''Seconds.'' The Cabrales (Spanish blue cheese) flan is the ''Firsts'' champ, a creamy, complex mouthful; ''Aunt Voula's Taramasalata'' is more toothsome than the pulverized Greek variety. The ''Seconds'' change frequently, but the oh-so-tender sherry-braised rabbit with chorizo bread pudding is a must-order if it's there. Desserts, made by local celeb pastry chef Dana Bickford, are uniformly stellar and imaginative.
