The Scene
Volare's tiny space is tripled by the outdoor patio (there are only two tables inside), where picnic benches lie in wait under the stars next to a bubbling fountain. Also take note of the entire indoor wall covered with dried roses.
The Food
Volare's calzones are hefty--diners' eyes are invariably bigger than their stomachs. Finishing one of these puppies in a sitting would require divine intervention. That's not to say that the hearty pastries should be avoided; with fresh ingredients (zucchini, mushrooms) to stuff inside, the calzones are easily one of the best dinner choices--with leftovers for breakfast and lunch the next day--on the menu. Volare's pizzas feature fresh-baked dough with gourmet toppings (shrimp, artichoke hearts, eggplant). Although pies can be ordered as a whole, at $1.50 for a massive slice, single servings are a meal and a deal.
