Varied cuisine--more continental than French--is served in toned-down surroundings.
The Scene Two adjoining dining areas are pleasant, but the room that often hosts private parties can be noisy. The decor is low-key. The patio boasts a more romantic atmosphere, with live oaks and a rippling brook where live music serenades patrons Friday and Saturday evenings. The quaint bakery with a separate entrance and menu features French pastries, mousse tarts and cheesecakes.
The Food The appetizer plate, which includes pâté, Brie, delectable salami, seafood salad, hearts of palm and marinated mushrooms, is filling for two. Entrees come with a nice house salad of mixed greens, which go well with the tarragon vinaigrette dressing, and several vegetables, including tender asparagus spears. The red veal medallions are a bit stringy and the champagne cream sauce is overcooked. But charbroiled steaks are tasty, especially the tender 12-ounce bison. The dessert to die for is Crumpets Delight--caramelized custard-sponge cake and strawberries topped with whipped cream.
