Creative New American fine-dining in a hotel that's a bastion of Old Texas.
In Short Inside the multi-million-dollar renovated Driskill Hotel is a sedate, refined, dimly lit space. Presidents, writers, actors and other celebrated faces dine at these tables, presided over by the jowly portraits of former governors. The ever-changing menu is set up in three courses plus dessert, or a nine-course tasting menu with optional wine pairings. Popular menu standards include the pan-roasted duck breast with apple-raisin hollandaise and pistachio-crusted sea scallops with a truffled herb salad.
A classic hotel's restaurant offers a fresh take on classic cafe fare, while world-class desserts complete the experience.
In Short Inside The Driskill's lobby is a more subtle cafe with 1920s hexagonal-tile floor. Sophisticated details include cherrywood accents, etched glass, art deco-style chandeliers, copper salt-and-pepper shakers and fresh flowers. Baked goods are prominently displayed near the entrance. Choose from the quiet atmosphere inside or a comfortable patio. The menu features pastas and comfort food like meat loaf and burgers with skin-on fries. Organic breads made daily include kalamata olive and Serrano cheddar.
