This laid-back restaurant draws an eclectic crowd for brunch and hip young locals for late-night eats.
In Short Magnolia harks back to the days of old Austin, with a fiercely independent spirit that no amount of high-tech growth can squelch. Relaxed and comfortable, the cafe features tables covered in whimsical designs. The crowd includes old folks, alienated teenagers and little tykes. Dishes include Neptunian Landscape: a mountain of chopped spuds blanketed with Tex-Mex fixings. For the same low price, there are generous stack of pancakes, including gingerbread, buttermilk, whole wheat and cornmeal varieties.
