The Scene
Just past the shopping centers on York Road, this 1740 inn exudes understated hunt-club style: fireplaces crackle in the cozy rooms; horse prints and paintings bedeck beige-striped walls. In keeping with the decor, patrons dress up and special occasions are treated with respect. One couple is greeted with a warm ''happy anniversary''; another's pie arrives with a blazing birthday candle. But don't expect the servers to break into a raucous rendition of ''happy birthday.'' This place is much too sophisticated.
The Food
Red meat and seafood are the stars of a menu that is rustic without being rough-hewn. Pan-seared tuna arrives with a savory red pepper risotto and spears of just-tender asparagus. The cooked-to-order filet mignon is juicily tender, while oysters with a crab imperial topping prove a luscious treat. Presentation is important--from the perfect circle of green aioli around the tuna to the careful arrangement of shrimp, mussels, lobster and crab in a martini glass.
