The Scene
On the southern edge of the Inner Harbor, one nondescript white building is the scene of a rollicking happy hour and an innovative ''Nuevo Cubana'' cuisine. A large tropical-themed bar with a corrugated tin roof is the restaurant's centerpiece; murals of Castro and the island add color. There are comfy wooden booths on two sides, and third glass wall lets out onto a spacious wooden deck.
The Food
If its tried-and-true Cuban cuisine you seek, keep looking. This extensive menu has been crafted around traditional ingredients then prepared with modern flair. Plantain crusted mahi-mahi--just one of several seafood dishes--takes plantain from side dish-yummy to main-dish wow. Beef lovers, don't despair: Porter marinated beef medallions and a traditional Cuban beef stew may be for you. For those interested in simpler fare, the bocadito de puerco features tender pulled pork topped with spicy salsa and a tangy barbecue sauce on sourdough bread; the Cubano sandwich could benefit from tastier ham and brown mustard.
