The Scene
If it weren't for the building's exposed original architecture, you might wonder if you were still in Baltimore--what with Ixia's bright blue walls, gold trim, and modern, plush furnishings. White tablecloths and romantic candlelight contrast sharply with eclectic artwork, colorful chandeliers, and an equally chic wait staff. A welcoming lounge and granite bar in the rear is set off from the three multi-level dining areas by floor-to-ceiling iridescent draperies.
The Food
Attentive and knowledgeable staff serve up the menu's inventive blend of Mediterranean and Asian fare. Traditional dishes are given special treatment, like the grilled filet mignon, served with smooth truffled potato puree and a robust mushroom sauce. Pan-seared sea scallops and scallion-and-sesame-crusted ahi tuna alike are astoundingly fresh tasting with the latter getting a little Pacific Island input from the pineapple chutney. A light appetizer of carpaccio of octopus beforehand makes calamari seem vulgar.
