The Scene
Hardwood floors, candles and minimalist artwork give this earthy but upscale restaurant a homey atmosphere. Billie Holiday's deep, soulful voice and other great jazz crooners emanating from the sound system set the mood.
The Food
The radical menu boasts meat, seafood and vegetarian dishes prepared with creative ingredients. Order off the wood-burning grill, and you can't go wrong. The bacon-wrapped filet rivals those of top-notch steakhouses, and fancy yet hearty sandwiches are equally filling. The tree theme is ubiquitous; wood chips and maple flavor add new twists to many menu items, including roasted duck and smoked turkey. The oyster and shitake mushroom appetizer, drenched in a white wine and creamy parmesan sauce, is exquisite. The tuna carpaccio, done just right, is made even better with a soy-wasabi putty that won't leave you gasping for water.
