The Scene
This tiny Mexican eatery is a shrine to things gone but not forgotten--the Colts, Baltimore-brewed National Bohemian beer, a winning Orioles team and, of course, Elvis. A nearly life-sized statue of the King greets customers at the door. The multi-colored bulbs that dangle over the tables add to the funky ambience but do little to illuminate the memorabilia-crammed walls. Expect to wait for a table, but with margaritas served in hubcaps, time passes quickly.
The Food
Nacho Mamas may never be confused with a genuine south-of-the-border cantina, but it serves huge portions of tasty Mexican-style comfort food, including over-sized burritos and sizzling fajitas. Creativity trumps authenticity here. The spinach salad's pungent bite of feta is tempered by smoky roasted red peppers and a smooth avocado vinaigrette. The creamy, jalapeno-spiked crab dip gives a nod to the homeland but packed with backfin crab, this treat's also got localization.
