The Scene
Although Donna Crivello's chain of cafes--started in the early '90s--stretches from Washington D.C. to Annapolis, all her locations maintain the same simple, sophisticated look: blond-wood tables, black-wood chairs, brushed-metal accents, and local artwork. Patrons rush in for coffee drinks and baked-that-day goodies, or linger over more substantial meals while listening to mellow jazz.
The Food
The menu ranges from simple salads to more sophisticated dishes like a flavorful seafood risotto with shrimp, salmon and calamari. Sandwiches include a portobello mushroom sandwich on focaccia with sundried tomatoes and herbed goat cheese. Salads are hearty enough for a knife and fork, and include such combos as tender slices of grilled flank steak frizzled onions, lettuce, and tomato, with a tart gorgonzola dressing. Pizzas are good, too.
