In the outskirts of Boston, tucked into off-the-beaten path neighborhoods, Italian gems (with nary a non-local or expensive valet in sight) linger. Winthrop's D'Parma is a textbook classic. The restaurant is dark and cozy, located close enough to the beach for a lovely after-dinner stroll. Everything from tortellini porcini to veal piccata is made with fresh ingredients, and non-city prices make for a wallet-friendly date spot. With more than 30 varieties of risotto, ravioli, gnocchi and traditional pastas alone (the menu continues well beyond with salads and subs) a return trip will be in order to sample it all.
