The Scene
A truck stop in name only, this is one of the kid-friendliest restaurants around. The retro atmosphere is perfectly suited for the plates of comfort food served up by the young, friendly waitstaff. Come weekends, lines can stretch out the door. Besides a limited beer and wine list, there is an old-fashioned soda fountain that serves up egg creams and vanilla Cokes.

The Food
Conventional favorites dot the menu, from heaping deli sandwiches to burgers to meat loaf and roast-turkey platters. Superb sweet-potato fries are not to be missed. The three-cheese mac and cheese is worth the calories. There are plenty of vegetarian and lighter-fare options, including a passable garden burger, super soups and fresh salads. To close out their meals, diners can be bad in any number of ways: Ice cream sundaes and thick milk shakes are popular with the kids.
