The Scene
A central, easy-to-find location in the historic Cronin's Landing building help to keep this popular and affordable Mexican eatery crowded (when the seasonal, riverside patio is open, overall capacity approaches 400). But it's Margaritas' affordable prices, generous portions and kid-friendly cuisine that make the restaurant a favorite of area families: bring earplugs and patience (expect an hour wait on weekends). Local singles gravitate to the colorful bar and its fruity house concoctions (try the melon margarita). Harried servers do their best to keep up with the hungry masses.
The Food
Straightforward, Americanized Mexican fare fills up an expansive menu. Among the starters, a bowl of Queso Fundido (a hot skillet of melted cheese mixed with salsa and seasonings) nicely complements endless baskets of homemade chips and salsa. Wise selections among the entrees include skillet-baked enchiladas (blanketed with zesty green tomatillo sauce) and massive chicken chimichangas, which benefit from a smoky red chile sauce.
