French-Latin fusion and a killer Cuban sandwich, served in an attractive restaurant and bar.
The Scene Chef Paul O'Connell's award-winning bistro is all vim and vigor, thanks to eclectic culinary and design touches. The airy dining room benefits from skylights and jovial paintings, while the dimly lit bar has a feel (and menu) all its own. Competent waiters deliver wicked mojitos and caiprinihas to a diverse clientele.
The Food Truly inventive dishes are artfully presented, though the restaurant is a bit casual for its prices. Starters, like most everything else, are intricate and flavorful; Peruvian ceviche or a foraged mushroom tart do not disappoint. Entrees include the familiar (steak frites, roasted chicken) and the unexpected (seared sea scallops with poblano-braised oxtail). The restaurant's biggest draw is the best Cuban sandwich in town, which is only served in the bar. Desserts, especially a tres leches cake with ginger-rhubarb sauce, are sublime.
