The divine tchotchkes are great conversation starters, not that anyone here needs any help. Even on off nights, this spot is packed with friendly chatter, with half the patrons looking like they are one degree removed from a punk band, the other half looking like they've spent the afternoon gardening. How many bars are there where you could bring both your uncle and your most cool-savvy friend? This eclectic but unpretentious lounge manages to feel like the coolest place around without projecting a ''members only'' vibe. Like its schizophrenic bar menu that includes both spicy Thai curry and Irish sausage, River Gods appeals to all stripes without losing its uniqueness.
