The Scene
Despite its hard-to-reach location along Route 9 East, La Morra serves a steady stream of casually attired locals. Young couples stop by the tiny, bustling bar to enjoy enjoy a pricey glass from its intriguing wine list. Patrons choose between dining on the brighter, more upbeat ground floor, or the more date-friendly upstairs (soft lighting, lower noise levels). Pleasant servers explain the menu's unique offerings while keeping water glasses filled.
The Food
La Morra's epic Northern Italian menu kicks off with a selection of cicchetti--Venetian-style tapas like fried sage leaves with anchovy--before yielding to homemade pasta dishes and wood-grilled meats and fish. Overall, the tone is rustic--delicate tagliatelle is tossed with smoky chicken livers, farro and thyme, while split roasted pork chops are served with caramelized root vegetables and a red wine balsamic and fig reduction. Desserts include a rich flourless chocolate cake, creamy hazlenut semifreddo and fruity homemade sorbets.
