The upwardly mobile cruise for partners at this post-millennial take on ''Casablanca'' in the Back Bay.
The Scene
This trendy restaurant has the feel of a tiki bar on safari, with a layover in Morocco. Huge propeller fans circulate overhead in a space that once housed a police station. The sunken dining room, elegant even with the open kitchen, is insulated from the din of the bar, a popular hangout for young professionals keen on coupling. The concrete patio overlooks an urban canyon of sorts. Yes, that is the rumble of the subway you feel underfoot.
The Food
Straightforward American dishes preside lazily over a largely unimaginative menu occasionally spiced with Asian influences. Appetizers and sandwiches serve as viable bar snacks; avoid the ginger-heavy spring rolls for a stack of grilled vegetables Napoleon swimming in a creamy sun-dried tomato sauce. Pasta entrees such as pasta primavera are equally predictable. Opt for the surprisingly savory ginger peach chicken, served with a crispy rice cake, peaches and snow peas.
