The Scene
Located in an 18th-century brick building, Boston's edition of this national chain has more atmosphere than most. And just steps from the aquarium, it's popular with tourists. The large outdoor patio, with its fantastic views of docked sailboats and yachts, is patrolled by casually professional waiters.
The Food
A heavy emphasis is placed on seafood, both local (lobster, scrod) and imported (Alaskan king crab, mahi mahi). Appetizers like coconut shrimp, lobster spring rolls and crab cakes are certainly fresh and well-produced, but in surprisingly small portions. Fresh salads and homemade chowders and bisques are better bets. Top-quality fish (try the buttery Chilean sea bass) can be prepared in any number of ways, from baked to glazed with miso to basted in honey and sweet chili sauce. Desserts, including a massive slice of mud pie, are given their proper due.
