The Scene
Mela's gauzy red curtains, copper wall-coverings and low lighting defy traditional Indian restaurant decor, creating a warm and cozy atmosphere. Tight quarters can make the room feel a bit cramped when packed. Young professionals dine in pairs or small groups, while others wait at the small bar for take-out, a welcome option for a neighborhood that has been long starved for quality Indian fare. Helpful, attentive waiters are eager to suggest favorite dishes and appropriate wines.

The Food
While best described as modern Indian, Mela's menu also incorporates plenty of familiar favorites, such as spicy tikka masala and crunchy samosas. Adventurous offerings include pork vindaloo and batyer mussallam (pistachio-stuffed quail in spiced yogurt gravy).
