The Scene
Your experience at this original Beer Works depends on the time of year: Baseball season brings lengthy lines and standing-room crowds, but the huge, neo-industrial dining areas sport plenty of empty tables between November and March. Sox fans and college-aged beer connoisseurs enjoy an ever-changing assortment of 16 beers on tap--massive kettles produce award-winning brews, like the colorfully named Bambino and Bluebeery Ales. Service can be exceptionally rushed and distracted when the place is packed.
The Food
An epic menu ranges from healthy and nourishing (freshly made salads, grilled swordfish steaks) to fried and offbeat (sour cream and chive fries, fried pickles). Most patrons gravitate to shareable bar snacks like jumbo buffalo wings (bone-in or boneless) and beer-battered onion rings. Gigantic burgers require two hands, but the truly famished tackle steak tips or a pound of juicy, marinated turkey. Few have room for oversized desserts like the ''Big Dig'' brownie sundae.
