The Scene
Umbria, which resides in the five-story former home of Trattoria Il Panino, has become a favorite among downtown's captains of commerce and visiting executives. The three upper floors house a weekends-only dance club and stylish lounge, while diners fill the two lower levels (the second floor provides an impressive spot for private functions and business dinners). Patrons are attended to by efficient servers while gazing at the bustling open kitchen's wood grill.
The Food
Imported and specialty ingredients dot the menu: ravioli is filled with Neapolitan ricotta, while a savory Bolognese sauce includes slow-cooked wild boar. Exceptionally fresh seafood dominates the list of starters (enormous New Zealand mussels, grilled calamari stuffed with spicy homemade sausage). Pasta dishes include delicate handmade lobster ravioli and fettuccelle with house-cured pancetta. Big-ticket entrees (organic ''long bone'' veal chop, wood-fired King salmon with proscuitto rago) are popular with the expense account set.
