The Scene
Upon entering this Somers pub (Hennessy's, Kennedy's, etc.), patrons are greeted with stylish, comforting touches like floor-to-ceiling windows, huge fans and bronze sculptures. Since the bar sits between the Financial District, North Station and Faneuil Hall, expect a healthy cross-section of patrons, including corporate after-work types, pre- and post-game sports fans and couples out for a designer drink like the black martini (gin and blackberry brandy).
The Draw
Cathedral-high ceilings fend off the packed-sardine feel common to smaller Irish pubs, making this a great place for large gatherings. Sports fans gravitate toward attractive plasma TVs and snack on a varied menu of upscale pub fare (lobster cocktail, bangers and mash). Drinking your way through the beer list may take more than a few outings--more than 35 ales, stouts and pilsners are served. Younger crowds arrive on weekend nights for an upbeat dance scene that's fueled by live bands.
