The Scene
Set amidst the Transportation Building's numerous chain restaurants, Tantric sticks out like a sore tandoori. After passing an inviting bar that serves up inventive house cocktails (basil-ginger gimlets, mango-clove martinis), patrons enter a high-ceilinged, warm-hued dining room. Large circular tables and banquettes are perfect for adventurous groups looking to enjoy numerous dishes family-style. Pleasant servers do a noteworthy job keeping water glasses filled.
The Food
Among its far-reaching menu of multi-regional fare, the kitchen covers its bases by offering all the familiar favorites (crisp samosas, creamy chicken Korma, fiery lamb Vindaloo) as well as unusual items like Adraki lamb, a spiced rack of lamb served with fig chutney. Top starters include crab cakes with an Indian twist--note the curry leaves and ginger-and Gobi Manchurian (tangy sautéed cauliflower florets). Gulab Jamun (fried dumplings in rose-cardamom syrup) and creamy rice pudding stand out among the dessert options.
