The Scene
Since 1972, carnivorous couples and famished families have stampeded to this local favorite just off the Mass Pike. The comfy steakhouse atmosphere hasn't changed much since then, which is just fine with the restaurant's many regulars. A young, mostly female waitstaff does an effective job of explaining the different cuts of meat available.
The Food
In-house butchers carve hearty porterhouses and tender filet mignons from the finest aged Angus beef available, yielding steak of comparable quality to that served in the city's swankiest chophouses. But prices are much more affordable here, and as a bonus steaks come with a choice of potato, plus a vegetable and garden salad. Lobster lovers shouldn't miss the ''famous'' lobster pie, in which a generous portion of fresh meat is baked in a savory cream sauce. Few patrons find room for standard, delicious desserts like chocolate mousse and apple pie.
