The Scene
Picco (Pizza and Ice Cream Co.) provides patrons with a casual, affordable hangout in which to enjoy light pizzas and devilish sundaes. After passing a traditional ice-cream fountain, visitors gaze upon the open kitchen's modern, glass-fronted pizza oven. When all of the dining area's bright-red chairs and leather banquettes are filled, crowds spill out onto the breezy outdoor patio. Pleasant servers recommend selections from a carefully chosen, affordable wine list.
The Food
Fans of traditional thin-crust pizza are often confounded the puffy, undeniably light crusts. The kitchen uses top-shelf toppings like roasted eggplant and fontina to create some of the neighborhood's most memorable pies. Also worthy of consideration are fresh salads (baby spinach with warm bacon vinaigrette) and inventive sandwiches (bacon, tomato, avocado, slaw and chipotle mayonnaise). Rare is the diner who leaves without digging into a brownie sundae or scoop of homemade ginger ice cream.
