The Scene
Mosaic tabletops and vibrantly painted walls bring the small dining area alive, while a steady stream of twenty-somethings and English professor-types give the place a cool, liberal feel. Food and drinks are ordered, paid for and picked up at the counter when your name is called out. Or chose the upstairs area, or outdoor backyard patio during summer and spring, for table service.
The Food
Fresh salsa and spectacular red chile sauce enhance traditional Mexican dishes, such as burritos, enchiladas, tamales, quesadillas and tacos. Each entree comes with one of five filling options: chicken, pork, beef, vegetables or black beans--the chicken enchiladas with black beans and red rice rock the house. All sauces, salsas, rice and beans are vegetarian-friendly. Although there are only two dessert options, classic Mexican flan and chocolate terrine, both are exceptional.
