The Scene
Options for Indian cuisine are very limited in Louisville, but Shalimar makes up in quality for what the city lacks in quantity. The open dining room doesn't have any cozy corners or booths, but silk Indian paintings adorn the walls. Spicy aromas linger in the air, delivering a hint of the exotic right to the senses.
The Food
The vegetable samosas, triangular parcels of dough wrapped around a mixture of peas, potatoes and cilantro, whet the appetite with a sweet tamarind dipping sauce (think Indian barbecue sauce.) The mouthwatering lamb saag satisfies diners with its juicy chunks of meat and creamy spinach. Okra with garlic, ginger and coriander is surprisingly flavorful and tender, while the buttery chicken tikka masala has a loyal following. Chase your fiery meal with smooth mango ice cream.
