The Scene
Back in the mid-'80s, Bazbeaux slashed its way through the fern bars to become the first place in Indy to scatter sun-dried tomatoes and artichoke hearts on thin-crust pizza. The concept caught on, and plenty of diners tossed back a Bartles & James on that rickety porch next to the fire station in Broad Ripple, or ordered white zinfandel by the glass inside Massachusetts Avenue's funky dining room-cum-art gallery. The ambience is casual and conducive to ordering strange, imported beers just for the heck of it.
The Food
Though gourmet pizza is old news now, sausage-and-pepperoni converts still can't get enough of the garden pizza, the Neptune or the quattro formaggio (clumped with ricotta and sweet tomato sauce, like a lasagna pizza--with bacon).
