The Scene
Chic enough for a Banana Republic catalog shoot, this upscale steakhouse on the Far Northside boasts a beautiful backdrop of cherry paneling with soft metal trim and textured glass. The trendier-than-thou mood is enhanced by whisper-quiet servers, who wear smocks like cosmetic-counter workers and ask if you prefer spring, sparkling or tap water.
The Food
Outstanding, delightful proof that there's substance to all the style. Signature entrees include an 8-ounce petite filet and an exceptional veal porterhouse; all meats are served in a pool of veal au jus, a special touch that sets Peterson's apart from others in its beefy business. Occasionally, the restaurant offers dry-aged blackened prime rib, an intensely flavored rarity in this wet-aged town. Seafood dishes are also highly recommendable. For dessert, order a hulking wedge of German chocolate cake and enough forks for everyone at the table.
