The Scene
Tucked in the fringe of an industrial park just north of the busy Touhy/Central intersection, West of Edens has a decent-sized patio out front, with a narrow indoor dining room. Order at the counter, then wait for your number to be called. Be warned, it's cash-only -- no exceptions, though an ATM is available.
The Food
The gyro plate features enough meat to serve at last two (you might ask for an additional pita if you're sharing), plus it comes with fries or rice. Many come here for the daily chicken special (just $4.45 for two legs and thighs, rice and oven-roasted Greek-style potatoes), but the more traditional Greek dishes are a far better choice. Souvlaki (or shish-ka-bob, as they call it), for example, is char-grilled to perfection -- and served with oven-roasted potatoes.
