The Scene
Chef-owner Gabriel Viti (also of nearby Gabriel's Restaurant and Miramar) designed this small storefront to resemble an El Dorado-style taqueria. Terra cotta tile floors, weathered rust and moss-colored walls and black-and-white ancestral photos meet sequined sombreros and a reclaimed wood and steel-facade bar. Chatty banditos meet and greet at wood tables in high-backed chairs over finger food and boozy bevs, which are delivered with a friendly smile.
The Food
Traditional, familiar Mexican dishes dominate the menu. Begin with the fine onion, tomato and cilantro-packed guacamole, served with warm chips, before moving on to smoky, savory pastor tacos or football-sized chimichangas filled with beef, beans, lettuce tomatoes, avocado and sour cream. Not to be missed is the chicken breast stuffed with spinach and Chihuahua cheese and smothered in a decadent, extra-garlicky wine cream sauce that will haunt you the rest of the day. Finish with super-moist tres leches cake topped with plenty of whipped cream and berries.
