The Scene
Glen Ellyn's stroller-derby Main Street is home to this urbane Italian spot in the former Glen Ellyn Brewing Co. The high, exposed-duct ceiling and preponderance of cold surfaces create a somewhat sterile setting, though exposed brick and a bustling bar add warmer touches. Service is a bit green around the edges.

The Food
The open kitchen dishes out Northern Italian cuisine that's seasonal, well-executed and satisfying. A fritto misto starter of lightly batter-fried shrimp, calamari, scallops and the unusual addition of salmon is a meal in itself. Sauteed mussels in white wine saffron sauce lack flavor punch, but spinach pasta with doubly-decadent ricotta filling and velvety fontina cream sauce puts Mom's mac 'n' cheese to shame. Tender rings and tentacles of squid swim in a zesty tomato sauce over grilled polenta; grilled beef tenderloin perches in a pungent Gorgonzola-leek puree. A strawberry sponge cake affair with raspberry sauce is worth the closing calories.
