The Scene
An undulating banquette leads into this sexy space anchoring the Hotel Orrington. Split into two areas, the L-shaped restaurant pops with details that don't overpower the room, including medusa-like lighting fixtures that snarl from the ceiling and bright red parsons chairs positioned for people watching. Ambient clubtracks flow, an apropos soundtrack for the twentysomethings who wander in.

The Food
Signature rolls boast clever names, but common ingredients--shrimp tempura, spicy mayo and masago--muddle uniqueness. Other than the choice of fish, it's hard to say what makes the Smoky Bear, layered with smoked salmon, cream cheese and avocado, different from its white tuna/spicy tuna counterpart, the White Sox, also with avocado and said ingredients. That's not to say that the rolls aren't delicious. The Golden Dragon benefits from crunchy lobster tempura and eel and sweet eel sauce. For dessert, fried banana--served on a fun, frosted aqua dish with five-spiced ice cream--beats the rest.

Hits
Chefs don't skimp on portion sizes so don't overorder. Rolls typically come with eight pieces, plenty for sharing. Presentation is also a plus. Try the filet mignon tataki, which gets a shock of color from diced red potatoes, skewered asparagus and avocado, all served in a pretty martini glass.

Misses
Given the restaurant's proximity to Northwestern, you'd think prices would be adjusted for college students on a limited budget. Rolls, however, hang between $14 and $20.
