The Scene
Ladies who lunch can breakfast or have dinner, too, at this comfortable space in the Peninsula Hotel complex. The bright room has textured burnt-yellow walls and wood accents, plus wine racks in abundance. A communal table with seating for 14 takes up much of Pierrot's middle space, while a display counter of decadent pastries tempts along one wall.
The Food
Though on the pricey side, Pierrot is a pleasant place for a light meal. Breakfast offers pastries, juices, granola and the like, while lunch and dinner features salads, tartines (open-face sandwiches) and a few other upscale edibles like foie gras terrine or freshly shucked oysters. Menu items are satisfying (velvety-smooth corn and potato chowder, rich duck rillette tartine); this place's top draws, though, are its myriad pastries and breads (pain au chocolat, fruit tarts and more) and good-sized wine and beer list, impressive for a cafe this size.
