The Scene
A deli case showcasing cheeses, vinegars and other gourmet goods stands near the entrance of this no-frills Roscoe Village trattoria, where talk is focused largely on the rustic Italian cuisine. Passersby catch glimpses of workers kneading pasta atop a wooden block via windows on the Addison Street side, but those dining in have few visual distractions but the animated, eclectic crowd and modern light sconces. Wooden tables of various sizes dot the one-room space.
The Food
Seasonal, organic ingredients are fingerprints of Chef Theo Gilbert (Spiaggia and Trattoria No. 10). Salads like refreshing strawberry and spinach leaves with goat cheese accented by a balsamic reduction make way for buttery pastas like tagliatelle alla bolognese, a creamy marriage of minced beef, pork, veal and lamb. Plump, garlicky diver scallops mingle with mixed mushrooms and parmigiano cheese over wheat tagliatelle. Traditional carrot cake gets a smooth, thick coat of creme cheese frosting.
