The Scene
A subtle storefront belies a fanciful interior, with a dining room featuring a curved bar, sushi bar and various seating options throughout, including low-slung loungers and striking red booths. Textured turquoise walls simulate the sea, and dramatic, ceiling-high sculptures mimic aquatic foliage. Lucite sheets have ''bubbles''--carve-outs serving as bottle holders for the bar, while large screens playing looped underwater footage drive home the theme.
The Food
An extensive menu sports dozens of familiar maki, nigiri and sashimi options, plus some seasonal standouts like silky super-white tuna. Distinctive appetizers, like yellowtail tartar wrapped in shaved cucumber, are popular sushi alternatives, and the Totoro Kani, a flavorful combo of avocado and shrimp tempura gets unexpected punch from a tuna tartar topping. Non-sushi entrees include grilled beef and chicken dishes, but seafood is the star. Grilled lobster benefits from a sweet and spicy baste, sauteed vegetables and a potato pancake.
