The Scene
The restaurant's shingle reads ''Cibo, Vino, e Amici'' (Food, Wine and Friends), which sums up the draw of this Italian eatery. Soft green walls and tin ceiling, hand painted ceramics, and mix and match light fixtures evoke a comfortable rustic setting. Personable waitstaff and a table-hopping blend of gay, lesbian and straight patrons supply the friendly neighborhood ambience.

The Food
A basket containing crunchy grissini, thin herbed bread sticks, opens the dinner of pan-Italian dishes. The caponata, a Sicilian eggplant and tomato relish, packs a nice vinegar and chilis bite, and the cherry and fig spreads add a subtle sweetness to a selection of meats -- prosciutto, sopressata and coppa -- on the salumi plate. Pastas include stubby thumb-like stozzapreti with pancetta and onions, galicky orecchiette with lamb sausage and tagliatelle in a light bolognese sauce. Tender baby lamb chops over grilled eggplant and eyes-on wood-grilled red snapper are standout entrees.
