The Scene
Stepping inside this restaurant, located in the historic Biggs Mansion, is like arriving at a 19th century dinner party: tables set with fine linens, candles, and roses fill intimate rooms appointed with glimmering chandeliers and marble fireplaces. An army of formally dressed waiters paces the well-trod floors and caters to an upscale special-occasion and corporate clientele.
The Food
The regional Italian shellfish and veal specialties from the New York original are all here. Complimentary (and filling) starters include breads and garlicky bruschetta, crunchy, thin-sliced fried zucchini and a generous chunk of crumbly Parmesan. The sauces turn standards into standouts, like the dazzling champagne truffle sauce accompanying the porcini mushroom ravioli, or a pinwheel of pan-fried jumbo shrimp covered with fontina cheese and a slightly tart lemon chardonnay sauce. The veal cutlet covered with wild mushrooms is textbook hearty with its prosciutto, mozzarella and pate stuffing.
