The Scene
This open, crowded room buzzes with a mature mix of business and pre-symphony diners. It's a sophisticated space, with walls of windows, tall, comfortable booths and an expansive lounge for casual dining and drinking. Servers in brown oxford shirts move things along, keeping on-the-go clientele happy. Outside, a lovely enclosed patio festooned with yellow umbrellas looks out onto the urban sprawl of the El.
The Food
The eclectic, contemporary American menu boasts a global influences, from Jamaican jerk chicken sandwich to Thai beef salad in spicy peanut dressing. Highlights include a simple Caesar, plus more sophisticated fare like delicate seared tilapia with fiddlehead ferns and rich polenta; grilled pork loin with lovely, light apple dumpling; and subtle lemon-pepper linguine with Manila clams. For dessert, the Study of Chocolate is worth serious contemplation, a sinful trio of bittersweet-chocolate creme caramel, golden chocolate-caramel torte and milk-chocolate gianduja ice cream.
