The Scene
Forget cramped sushi parlors with no elbow room--Kamehachi's Streeterville location scores big points for both style and comfort. The luxuriously open, airy space offers plenty of room between tables, with noise level at an energetic but manageable buzz. It's a zen-like, organic setting, from the bamboo waterfall at the entrance to the ubiquitous greenery and tree branches. Service is smart and quick, with a mixed crowd of Mag Mile tourists and trendy business diners.

The Food
Count on Kamehachi's expansive menu of consistently excellent Japanese fare: hot and cold appetizers, intriguing maki rolls, and more than two dozen varieties of nigiri (pieces). You can't go wrong with tantalizing starters like asparagus rolled in tender, marinated beef, or classic goma-ae (boiled spinach with sweet sesame sauce). Rolls are creative and varied, like the excellent Chicago Crazy Roll: tuna, yellowtail, salmon, crab, cucumber, lettuce and masago caviar. For vegetarians, there's tempting tempura, teriyaki, noodles, and a variety of meatless rolls.
