The Scene
Parents with newborns join beefy gents patting their bellies in post-meal satisfaction at this bright storefront, which serves up Italian classics like Nonna used to make. The space is decorated with trompe l'oeil brick walls, faux ivy dripping from rafters and fire-engine red tablecloths. Servers occasionally have trouble navigating past tight tables, but no one minds once steaming bowls of pasta arrive.
The Food
The traditional Italian menu brims with winning plates. Delightfully acidic bruschetta is garden-fresh with garlic, basil and sweet tomatoes on garlic toast. Insalata di Oggi is a simple, scintillating salad of grilled chicken atop crunchy romaine with balsamic dressing. Veal is prepared a whopping 15 ways; try it saltimbocca-style, topped with smoky prosciutto and bubbly mozzarella in piquant wine sauce. Rigatoni alla vodka is bathed in savory Genoa salami-specked red cream sauce, and heavenly breaded beef spedini kabobs are dressed with lemony, oregano-charged olive oil.
