Stefano's is probably my favorite deep dish in the city (awesome crust), so if this review was based on the food only it would definitely be a 5-star. Also,...read more

The Scene
No need for reservations, as this pizza joint is big enough to handle your softball team on a moment's notice. Smaller family-sized booths are in front, with larger tables and rooms in the back. The walls are jammed with sports posters and beer signs, though the few TVs are surprisingly tuned to non-sports channels (even when Chicago teams are playing). The staff, however, will find a game, if asked.
The Draw
It's pizza, plain and simple. The stuffed (deep dish Chicago-style) pies here feature a crust that's more bready, than pastry-like. Cheese doesn't overwhelm the moderately spicy sauce. All the usual ingredients are available as toppings. Pasta portions are plentiful. Salads are large, but mainly lettuce and nothing special. Fried calamari is a nice appetizer, with the rings flash-fried and featuring a spiced breading.
