The Scene
If you're not familiar with Devon Avenue dining, Indian Garden is a good place to start. With four locations around the city, they're used to dealing with non-natives, and service is friendly and patient. The room is narrow and bright, with yellow walls and exotic prints and paintings. The crowd is a subdued mix of locals and visitors craving curry.
The Food
Indian Garden's extensive menu abounds with classics for vegetarians and carnivores alike--hearty, filling samosas stuffed with potatoes and green peas; vegetable fritter pakora; and lamb, chicken and seafood specialties whose flavors range from subtle to seriously hot. Chicken tikka masala is pleasantly mild, chunks of chicken folded into a creamy tomato sauce. Like spicy? Try the lamb or chicken vindaloo, but beware--the menu calls its sauce ''fiery,'' and that's an understatement. Cool off your mouth not with water, but with a big hunk of naan.
