The Scene
The front room of this neighborhood restaurant screams ''deli,'' with a large glass case offering panini, pasta and cold sandwiches to go and a few small tables. A side entrance opens into a darker, dimly lit dining room, with pale wooden chairs, butcher paper-topped tables, and color photos of Italy hanging next to hand-painted murals.
The Food
Lucia's basic Italian fare exceeds expectations. For starters, try lightly fried calamari, eggplant rolled and stuffed with four delicate cheeses, or a Caprese salad with giant red tomatoes and herb-flecked baby mozzarella. But don't fill up--more than a dozen pasta options await. Tossed with brown butter, fried sage and crunchy walnuts, pumpkin-filled ravioli is a taste of fall. Fork-tender whole red snapper is de-boned, smothered in herbs, though sides of roasted potatoes and summer squash are underseasoned. Homemade desserts include a liquor-soaked tiramisu, a vanilla-laden panna cotta and a chocolate semi-freddo.
