The Scene
With its stylish stone walls, exposed-wood ceilings and antique-wood communal tables, this cozy River North restaurant beguiles with a mix of urban hipness and old-world warmth. An after-work crowd sips from the extensive wine list at the 75-seat wine bar; in the buzzing dining room, a crowd of suits, foodies and couples on dates are treated to smart service and stellar cuisine.

The Food
The ever-changing menu highlights simple, clean Italian flavors. All meals start with a generous selection of antipasti, from still-warm olive focaccia bread to house-smoked salmon with radishes and salami with crunchy celery slices (The best part? If you like something, they'll bring more). From there, it's on to smaller portions of lovely, light pastas--cavatelli with wild mushrooms, perhaps, or rigatoni with white beans--and petite entrees like dreamy, meltaway braised short rib in red wine sauce. House gelati are heavenly, from classic chocolate to burnt caramel.
