The Scene
This corner spot is bright and super-casual, with smiling service and a simple decor of cream walls, green carpeted floors and framed Thai prints. Budget-conscious couples and friends from the neighborhood chat quietly at tables; a small outdoor seating area beckons during the warmer months.
The Food
The extensive menu covers the bases with satays and pot stickers, tom kha and tom yum soups, and a few dozen noodle and rice dishes. Golden Crab is a deliciously crunchy, cream-cheesy starter. Among entrees, Once Upon a Thai pad thai jacks up the classic noodle dish with crystal noodles and shrimp, tofu and chicken--mild, but fab with a splash of hot sauce. Lime shrimp bathe in a mellow mixture of coconut milk, lemongrass and Thai ginger, while pepper steak gets its heat from jalapeno and green and red peppers. Cool off with sticky rice with mango or a fruit smoothie with tapioca pearls.
