The Scene
Set in the Goodman Theatre complex, Petterino's bustles with show-goers and Loop white-collar types hungry for something quick and not too fancy. Red velvet banquettes and hardwood floors make for a plush '40s supper club feel. The inside menu cover lists show times for all the major theaters in the area; quick, friendly servers make sure you get there on time.
The Food
The classic American menu features throwback fare (spaghetti, fried shrimp) that fits the room's nostalgic mood. Standout starters include fresh jumbo shrimp cocktail and zesty tomato bisque; main plates range from Italian standbys like ravioli al forno and chicken saltimbocca to kicky peppercorn steak with bacon and savory shrimp de jonghe baked in bread crumbs with a rich sherry butter sauce. Desserts include a couple of chocolate winners: moist ''applause'' cake and rich banana-and-cookie ice cream pie.
